Lemuria Smoothie

Jump to Recipe

This is one of my favorite smoothies simply because of how beautiful it is with the vibrancy of the dragon fruit. As with all of my smoothies, I used 5 regular bananas and 2 frozens, plus 1 cup of another fruit. In this case, it is frozen dragon fruit.

Dragon Fruit

What It Is

Dragon fruit, also called pitaya, is a tropical fruit that grows on a cactus. It has a bright pink or yellow outer skin and white or magenta flesh with small black seeds. The flavor is mild, slightly sweet, and very refreshing. Because of its light texture and high water content, it works well in simple fruit meals, smoothies, or fruit bowls.

Hydration and Light Digestion

Dragon fruit is mostly water, which makes it naturally hydrating and easy on the digestive system. Foods with high water content tend to move through the body more easily than heavier foods, which can help people feel energized rather than sluggish after eating. Many people find dragon fruit very gentle on the stomach, especially when eaten on its own or with other fresh fruits.

Fiber and Gut Support

The small black seeds in dragon fruit provide natural fiber. Fiber helps support regular digestion and feeds beneficial gut bacteria. Because the fruit is soft and not overly dense, the fiber is generally easy to tolerate while still helping support digestive health.

Nutrients and Antioxidants

Dragon fruit contains vitamin C, magnesium, and plant compounds that act as antioxidants. These nutrients support immune health and help protect the body from everyday oxidative stress. While it is not one of the most nutrient-dense fruits, it contributes hydration and helpful micronutrients as part of a fruit-based diet.

How to Eat It

Dragon fruit is easy to prepare. Simply slice it in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. It can be eaten on its own, added to fruit bowls, blended into smoothies, or paired with other tropical fruits like mango, pineapple, or banana. The yellow variety is usually sweeter, while the pink varieties are milder and more refreshing.
